We’ve been asked many times the origin of our kennel name. Quite simply “Arkle” is Joan’s favourite horse and Von is German for nobility, roughly translated and although we’re not nobility it was the sort of kennel name we thought would suit our noble breed of Rough Collies.
Previously the three of us were owners of very different breeds, having showing and breeding careers which spanned 30 years. Joan was a prolific breeder of Long Haired Dachshunds and GSDs, whilst Anita and Sally had previously bred and had shown Afghan Hounds. Sally as a youngster had the opportunity to show Golden Retrievers and several other breeds. The team has also shown and bred West Highland Whites.
Even though we were all specialising in our own breeds we always remained true the Rough Collie, which has held a special place in our hearts. The Rough Collie quite simply is the best of any we have had experience with.
In 1995 we were already showing, but decided to take our interest further, taking our foundation bitch on breed terns from Mrs Rene Cozens, Janneva Elegance “Ellie” who gave us the fantastic legacy we continue today.
Although we have has some excellent years since, we have remained a small family run kennel, capitalising on our previous experience and knowledge of other breeds owned and shown over thirty years.
Now well established Vonarkle offers Rough Collie puppies of soundness, quality and temperament from well established lines, in all three colours, blue, tri and sable.
It’s not all serious! Most of the time we just have fun, loving and caring for our great friends “The Lads and The Lassies!!”
